The Nature Center at Shaker Lakes was founded in 1966 as the result of a grassroots community effort to preserve the Shaker Parklands from becoming the route for a new freeway connecting Cleveland's East Side to downtown. The organization had been using Filemaker for almost ten years to manage membership and contributions. However the development had always been done in-house and not with a professional developer. The release of FileMaker 7 was a perfect opportunity to rewrite the application with improved processes and also add correspondence, event management and scheduling systems.
